Chiefly personal and professional correspondence of Melvin, horticulturist of Pleasant Garden, N.C., and active member of the North Carolina Wild Flower Preservation Society, including letters from Henry Roland Totten (1892-1974) and other faculty members of the Botany Department, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Also included are scattered letters dealing with local and family history; reprints of articles by Melvin; photocopies of nine letters, 1953-1957 and 1967, from Immanuel Velikovsky (1895- ), Princeton, N.J., to Melvin about their shared interests in the formation of the Carolina bays; and photocopies of letters, 1969, from Frank Porter Graham (1886- ) to Melvin about family history.
